Santuario Votivo Nacional Nuestra Senora de Coromoto, Guanare

A great work and I am glad to see that it is in excellent condition, its exterior and interior spaces are very well maintained, we were able to see the relic out of its usual place and tour the place. A mandatory stop to thank the Virgin.

The Sanctuary is built on the site of the second apparition of the Virgin to the Coromoto Indian. The construction project was drawn up by the Spanish architect Juan Capdevila Elías and the Venezuelan architect Erasmo Calvani in 1975, but it was not until the early 1980s that work began. The work was interrupted on several occasions, due to the fact that the economic resources from the Vatican did not arrive with fluidity. The Venezuelan builder, Manuel Furió Donet, was there from the beginning of the work. He was in charge of carrying it out at the hands of the architect Erasmo Calvani. It was finally consecrated on January 7, 1996 and inaugurated with a mass by Pope John Paul II on February 10 of the same year, in the presence of more than two million devotees who awaited the consecration of the temple. On October 20, 2007, it was elevated by Pope Benedict XVI to the dignity of a minor Basilica.
