Dressed in full combat gear, 19 larger-than-life steel soldiers walk through a field at Korean War Veterans Memorial. The steel figures, designed by sculptor Frank Gaylord, stand about 2.2 m (7.5 ft) high, each weighing nearly 500 kg (1,000 lbs). The memorial also includes a shallow pool of remembrance, lined with black granite and surrounded by a grove of linden trees and benches. The trees create a barrel effect, allowing the sunlight to reflect on the surface of the water. Inscriptions list the numbers of U.S. and United Nations troops killed, wounded, and missing. A final granite wall bears a message often heard around the world, "Freedom Is Not Free." Find out how to plan Washington DC trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

  • We went at night- the statues are lit up and it gives it a whole different effect than in the daylight. It’s very powerful and a must-see for all Americans!

  • Yrs its open. Just walk around the fences. The statues are impactful. They are remodeling the surrounding area. Once is finished on the summer of 2022 it's going to look even better!
  • Beautiful memorial with stunning views. I went during the day and at night and both were beautiful. Easy to do on your own or with a tour. The wall at night was spectacular
