Fort Worth Zoo was founded in 1909 with just a handful of animals, making it the oldest zoo in Texas. Today the zoo has been ranked as the fifth best in the country by USA Travel Guide and is home to almost 7,000 animals. You can discover an array of exotic creatures, such as penguins, Asian elephants, chimpanzees, poison dart frogs, and parrots, as well as see an extensive collection of native Texan species. To view aquatic animals, visit the Great Barrier Reef exhibit. The zoo features a number of rides and activities, including a carousel, rock-climbing tower, and hurricane and tornado simulators. This is a great Zoo. Plenty to see and do. You can blaze through it in an hour or take your time and easily spend 2-3 hours with a snack/lunch break. It's very popular on the weekend. In the summer there's a splash pad for just a little extra $. They just opened a new elephant and rhino enclosure April 15, 2021. BE AWARE, the big cats and most African animals are under construction and will not return until 2023. You can still see giraffes and hippos.

This is the best zoo around. Super clean, friendly staff, and lots of animals to see. The zoo is spread out nicely but was still super busy during spring break. I was surprised at how quickly we got parked even with a very long line. Food lines were manageable but 20-30 minute wait. Prices were very reasonable on food and souvenirs. Kids loved seeing all the animals. Will be coming back for years to come.
