Create an itinerary including Trentham Gardens
A major restoration project gives Trentham Gardens the feeling of England's golden years. The Italianate garden's sculpted bushes, grasses, and flowers make angles along walking trails over an expansive patch of land. Take a walk through the gardens toward the woodlands, where over 140 Barbary macaques watch you from the trees. You won't find fences or pens keeping the monkeys away from the visitors, but wardens are on the watch to ensure your safety. Very little of Trentham Hall still stands, having been razed by its owner, the 4th Duke of Sutherland, in 1912 after the nearby town turned down his offer of the estate. However, on a ride in the Giant Observation Wheel, which gives you a bird's-eye view, you'll see the outline of the former hall. You'll also see the Trentham Ballroom where huge acts, including Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, took the stage in the 1970s. • Visited in December 2019, just before Christmas, when I had a holiday in the area. The car park is pretty huge and letter coded, so easy to get back later. I walked through the shopping village, which is also a different attraction, but 1 day before Christmas it was too much for me from lights, smells, music, etc. The garden has a huge visitor centre, where we get map and other information. It was not busy that time and luckily we had a nice dry winter weather. I turned to the left walked around the lake, just next to the monkey kingdom, which was unfortunately closed. I got another map with "fairy trail", and in the whole estate I could see fairy figures in different spots, which were very pretty and lovely. The estate is quite big to have a good and relaxing walk and when we walk around, then ended up at the Italian garden. That area of the estate was amazing even in wintertime. I can imagine how beautiful it is in April-May, so I think it worth to have another visit. The pictures speak for themselves. I spent there about 3 hours, but in a sunny and warm day it can be a full day out, especially when the monkey kingdom is open, too. Then just have to be careful not to spend a fortune in the shopping village while back to the car park:D
  • Absolutely amazing. The Christmas lights are truly breathtaking. Amazing day out the Ferris wheel and swings were a lovely addition and we're reasonably priced. The staff all around were really friendly and even offered to take pictures for the group. Would definitely recommend
