Housing both an abbey and the battleground of the most famous battle in English history, Battle Abbey and Battlefield memorializes the fallen at the 1066 Battle of Hastings. Began under the orders of William the Conqueror after he wrested England from the Anglo-Saxons, the abbey hosts movies and CGI displays to explain this turning point in British history. In the Abbey, feel the pulse of history by standing where the last Anglo-Saxon ruler, King Harold, was slain. Outside, walk around the grounds of the actual site of the battle and use the audio guide to learn how it all unfolded. The official website has an activity pack to download filled with games and activities to engage the entire family. We always have a great time at Battle Abbey and visit several times a year

A wet and cold day in March, so there were not too many people around, which helped to get around and see things. Fascinating to finally see the actual place that those history lessons taught us about. I wouldn't have fancied running up that hill into a hail of arrows, so if I were Duke William, England would still be Anglo-Saxon! Very interesting. Recommended.
