Ponta Delgada — 5 nights

As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Islet of Vila Franca do Campo and Salto do Cabrito. Igreja Matriz de Sao Sebastiao and Igreja do Santo Cristo will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Ponta Delgada side-trips: Furnas (Pico do Ferro Viewpoint & Centro de Monitorizacao e Investigacao das Furnas). And it doesn't end there: explore the activities along Lagoa Azul, see what you can catch with a fishing tour, tour the pleasant surroundings at Reserva Florestal de Recreio do Pinhal da Paz, and head outdoors with Lagoa do Canario.

Green Island
Known as The Green Island, Sao Miguel is the largest of the nine islands of Azores and is considered a natural paradise. These islands were discovered in the 15th century and, according to myth, are reputed to be part of the lost empire of Atlantis. Sao Miguel's most prominent feature is a set of twin lakes, one of which is blue and the other green. Visitors also enjoy the island's park, golf courses, beaches, mountains, marina, and ocean views. Stop for a look at the city's monuments and architecture, and experience the cobbled streets lined with a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, and cafes.
