A mere 32 km (20 mi) from Lisbon, the coastal town of Cascais has a long history of entertaining royals.

Step off the beaten path and head to Miradouro do Suberco and Praia do Carvalhal. Get out of town with these interesting Cascais side-trips: Nazare (O Sitio & Praia da Nazare), Monastery of Alcobaca (in Alcobaca) and Marinhas de Sal (in Rio Maior).
