Kotor — 12 nights

Perched on the edge of a fjord-like bay rimmed by rugged mountains, Kotor grew around a medieval settlement purposely built like a maze.

Žabljak — 5 nights

A trip to Zabljak takes you to the north of the country, a mountainous region that's as steeped in great scenery and views as it is in history and culture.
Get out of town with these interesting Žabljak side-trips: Tara River Canyon (in Dobrilovina) and Rafting (in Šćepan Polje). On the 20th (Wed), dedicate a day to the elevated beauty of Bobotov Kuk. There's still lots to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Black Lake, whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, fly down the slopes at Savin Kuk Ski Resort, and snap pictures at Đurđevića Tara Bridge.

Getting from Ulcinj to Žabljak by car takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of taxi, train, and bus; or take a bus. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Fri) early enough to drive to Podgorica.

One of Europe's most relaxed and newest capital cities, Podgorica sits on the confluence of two rivers, with two sides of it offering two different options for exploring.
Explore Podgorica's surroundings by going to Morača Monastery (in Bare), Lipa Cave (in Lipa) and Lovćen National Park (in Cetinje). Spend the 27th (Wed) soaking in the spiritual atmosphere of Ostrog Monastery.
