Honfleur is a town surrounding a beautiful little 17th-century harbor in Lower Normandy.
Step off the beaten path and head to Pont de Normandie and Deauville Beach. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Honfleur: Dives-sur-Mer (Le Marche Les Halles, Les Halles Medievales, &more), Golf Club de Cabourg Le Home (in Varaville) and Cabourg (Thalazur Cabourg, Hippodrome Cabourg, &more). Taking its name from a cluster of rocks off the English Channel coast, Calvados caters to your every holiday whim in its prestigious seaside resorts, but the department is most famous as the landing site of Allied troops on the beaches of the Bay of the Seine on the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944. Located in the Lower Normandy region and created during the French Revolution, this department belongs to the Basse-Normandie region where the Battle of Normandy took place. Agriculture dominates the economy of Calvados, with specialties you can try at nearby shops and restaurants, including butter, cheese, hard cider, and Calvados, the apple-based liqueur that takes its name from the area. The department is one of the most-touristed destinations and biggest vacation hot spots in Normandy thanks to its seaside resorts with luxurious hotels and casinos, manor houses, castles, and quiet chalk cliffs all along the green countryside.
