Step out of the city life by going to Big Thicket National Preserve and Brazos Bend State Park. You'll get in some beach time at Surfside Beach and Sylvan Beach Park. Get out of town with these interesting Houston side-trips: Brazosport Museum of Natural Science (in Clute), Montgomery (Jenkins Sunshine Farm & St Francis Wolf Sanctuary) and Washington (Star of the Republic Museum & Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site). There's lots more to do: steep yourself in history at Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites, do a tasting at Bernhardt Winery, see the interesting displays at National Museum of Funeral History, and admire the majestic nature at Huntsville State Park.
