Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel — 6 nights

As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Explore Ponta Delgada's surroundings by going to Furnas (Pico do Ferro Viewpoint, Parque Terra Nostra, &more) and Lagoa Verde / Lagoa das Sete Cidades (in Sete Cidades). Next up on the itinerary: take in the dramatic natural features at Caldeira das Sete Cidades, make a trip to Portas da Cidade, explore the activities along Furnas, and stroll through Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre.

Horta is a single municipality and city in the western part of the Archipelago of the Azores, encompassing the island of Faial. Venture out of the city with trips to Lagoa do Capitao (in Sao Roque do Pico), Lajes do Pico (atiPICO, Vigia da Queimada, &more) and Adega A Buraca (in Santo Antonio). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Museu Scrimshaw, trek along Entre Montes, explore the striking landscape at Caldeira, and take in the waterfront activity at The Marina of Horta.
