Lagrasse is a commune in the Aude department in southern France.Lagrasse is part of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France association ("The most beautiful villages of France").GeographyLagrasse is about 30km southeast of Carcassonne. Start off your visit on the 23rd (Sat): browse the eclectic array of goods at Saturday Open Air Market. On your second day here, explore the ancient world of Abbaye de Lagrasse, deepen your understanding at La Maison du Rire, and then explore the striking landscape at Ponts Naturels.

Axat is a commune in the Aude department in the Occitanie region of southern France.The inhabitants of the commune are known as Axatois or Axatoises.GeographyAxat is located in Cathar country at the doors of the Aude Pyrenees some 45 km west by north-west of Perpignan and 10 km south-east of Quillan. Kids will enjoy River Rafting & Tubing and Piscine d'Axat. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Axat: Chateau de Peyrepertuse (in Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse) and Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet (Gorges de Galamus & Ermitage Saint-Antoine de Galamus). There's more to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Lac des Bouillouses and step into the grandiose world of Chateau de Puilaurens.

Carcassonne — 2 nights

Best known as a fortified town, Carcassonne is a walled city that provided the inspiration for the castle in Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" and the location for many scenes in Kevin Costner's movie "Robin Hood." For a daily dose of excitement, medieval jousting tournaments are held twice per day between the two walls--while this may sound like a typical touristy show, it's actually an entertaining display of combative competition and horsemanship.
Start off your visit on the 31st (Sun): don't miss a visit to Ecluse de l'Aiguille, get outside with Eaurizon, and then make a splash at Parc Aquaviva. On the 1st (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: tour the pleasant surroundings at Mayronnes Sculpture Trail, get to know the fascinating history of La Cite Medievale, and then stop by La Fille du Midi.

With 10 natural regions, you are sure to find plenty of things to do, such as watching pink flamingos who congregate to the east, go orchid hunting inland, or hike in the forests with rare peatlands to the north and west. Arts and crafts are popular, and you can watch artisans work at many of the businesses along the A61 and A9. Finally, you can visit the Canal du Midi passing right through Aude on its way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.
