Vienna, Austria to Blaskogabyggd is an approximately 9.5-hour combination of flight and bus. The time zone difference moving from Central European Standard Time (CET) to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is minus 1 hour. When traveling from Vienna in December, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Blaskogabyggd: temperatures range from 2°C by day to -2°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Wed) so you can fly to Hofn.

Höfn or Höfn í Hornafirði is an Icelandic fishing town in the southeastern part of the country. Venture out of the city with trips to Jokulsarlon (Fellsfjara, Glacier Lagoon, &more) and Flaajokull Glacier (in Skaftafell). Fly from Blaskogabyggd to Hofn in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of taxi and bus. In December, daily temperatures in Hofn can reach 3°C, while at night they dip to 0°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Sat) early enough to drive to Vik.

Iceland's southernmost village, Vik, sports some of the country's wildest and most dramatic coastline.

Kick off your visit on the 31st (Sun): trot along with a tour on horseback, tour the pleasant surroundings at Reynisfjara Beach, then stroll through Black Sand Beach, and finally appreciate the history behind Voyages Friendship Statue. On the next day, take in the spiritual surroundings of Reyniskirkja Church, take in the dramatic natural features at Dyrhólaey, then explore the striking landscape at Sólheimajökulll, and finally admire the sheer force of Skogafoss.

Reykjavik, the world's most northerly capital, effortlessly combines small-town charm with heaps of big city energy.

Get out of town with these interesting Reykjavik side-trips: Blue Lagoon (in Grindavik), Viking World (in Keflavik) and Thingvellir National Park (in Thingvellir). Spend the 5th (Fri) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. You can drive from Vik to Reykjavik in 2.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Expect a bit cooler evenings in Reykjavik when traveling from Vik in January, with lows around -1°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Sat) early enough to catch the flight back home.
