Axat is a commune in the Aude department in the Occitanie region of southern France.The inhabitants of the commune are known as Axatois or Axatoises.GeographyAxat is located in Cathar country at the doors of the Aude Pyrenees some 45 km west by north-west of Perpignan and 10 km south-east of Quillan. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Axat: Ansignan (Plan d'eau sur l'Agly, Pont- Aqueduc, &more), Col de Pailheres (in Ascou) and Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet (Ermitage Saint-Antoine de Galamus & Gorges de Galamus). There's lots more to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Lac des Bouillouses, get behind the scenes at Moulin Saint Pierre, get outside with L'Ermitage de Forca Real, and take in the views from Pont Romain.
