Ponta Delgada — 9 nights

As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Get some cultural insight at Igreja do Santo Cristo and Igreja Matriz de Sao Sebastiao. Get in touch with nature at Caldeira das Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Ponta Delgada: Vila Franca do Campo (Islet of Vila Franca do Campo & Praia Da Amora) and Furnas (Parque Terra Nostra, Poca Da Dona Beija, &more). Spend the 28th (Tue) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. There's still lots to do: see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour, pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja de Sao Jose, get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Nossa Senhora da Paz.

Green Island
Known as The Green Island, Sao Miguel is the largest of the nine islands of Azores and is considered a natural paradise. These islands were discovered in the 15th century and, according to myth, are reputed to be part of the lost empire of Atlantis. Sao Miguel's most prominent feature is a set of twin lakes, one of which is blue and the other green. Visitors also enjoy the island's park, golf courses, beaches, mountains, marina, and ocean views. Stop for a look at the city's monuments and architecture, and experience the cobbled streets lined with a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, and cafes.
