Create an itinerary including Eternal Spring Shrine
Visit the beautiful and thought-provoking Eternal Spring Shrine, built in 1958 to commemorate 212 veterans who died during the construction of the Central Cross-Island Highway. Nestled into the side of a mountain, the Tang-dynasty-style shrine also sits just above a natural-spring waterfall. Unfortunately, due to its precarious location, the shrine has been destroyed and rebuilt twice because of landslides. Due to dangerous conditions, the traditional 20-minute route through the mountains to the shrine sometimes closes, as does the longer, more strenuous trail behind the shrine, which takes you up the "sky ladder." You’ll get fantastic views of the shrine and perfect photo opportunities from across the gorge. • Parking for the shrine is alongside the road and is around a 15 min walk to reach to. The view is amazing and you can see the shrine from the parking area. There are bathrooms nearby so even if you...

  • This shrine commemorates soldiers who died during the construction of the roads in Taroko area. There are several Buddhist statues inside. The shrine is interestingly designed as the waterfall runs...

  • The access is on the right side stairway after the red bridge. Walking through the rock tunnel makes it exciting getting to the shrine. Some lovely photos of the colourful buildings and the river flowing down the rocks. Also nice views over the river flowing down the wide gorge, at this point.
  • One of must-see destination in Taroko list. Easy to access the parking lot by car, bus or scooters. Cross the red bridge, go down to a tunel then the temple appears at the end. It's a small temple which was built to honor the people who died during the time of highway construction. Peaceful and sacred place. No need ticket.
