Create an itinerary including Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street)
Stroll through mysterious Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street) lined with rows of red lanterns hanging in front of quaint Chinese teahouses and inns. The narrow cobblestone street has changed little since the gold rush era of the town. Its traditional architecture, hilly surroundings, and misty weather evoke the atmosphere of the Academy-awarded anime "Spirited Away," attracting flocks of Japanese tourists and Ghibli fans. Eat your way through numerous food stalls packed with yummy traditional treats. Keep off the stairs at dusk when lanterns start to light up, or you will be trapped in the crowd of tourists trying to capture this scenic moment with cameras. • Good scenery and very accessible with public buses coming frequently. There's good and affordable food but shopping and souvenirs are competitve and overpriced

  • Because we didn't have a lot of time in Taiwan we ended up here for a Saturday night. Busy, so busy. We caught the bus number 965 from right outside our hotel and it took us right to Jiufen, so easy.....  more

  • A place worth seeing and visiting. The whole vibe did remind me of the movie “Spirited Away”. It’s definitely a tourist spot here too. There’s plenty of food here. Great for sight seeing and also photo’s. You can enjoy a beautiful sunset here as well. I would avoid coming during the weekend’s because it gets very very crowded and the streets are narrow so it can get pretty cramped at times. All in all, it’s a good place to visit if you haven’t been.
  • A small town located on the sides of the hill with an old street that is full of local delicacies. Recommended to stay there over the night at the B and B there as the night view is very vastly different from the day view and is worth a visit. Also would advise to check the weather before you visit so that you can prepare your attire appropriately.
