Stroll, shop, and take photos of the famous lanterns at Shifen Old Street, one of the most popular stops along the Pingxi railroad line. This picturesque attraction has a number of souvenir shops and eateries to entertain you during your visit. Though it was initially built to transport coal, this train stop and historical site is now known for its sky lanterns. Here you may be inspired to paint a wish and then release your lantern into the air with hopes that the wish will come true. It's very touristy, but it's definitely a unique location. You can walk right along the tracks, freely crossing back and forth, browsing the stores and enjoying the different yummy snacks, watching people release lanterns on the tracks and contending with the calls of promoters wanting you to do the same. It's fun when the trains come by, too, every hour or so. I don't regret coming here.

If you are wondering if this is the place for sky lantern release...Yes! Cost is around 150 for single color and 200 for four colors and the shop owners will usually help to snap still shots and videos of the lantern release! Also, the Shifen waterfall is about half an hour walk from here...so be prepared to have an umbrella at least to shield u from the scorching sun during the walk down..it's worth it..
