Built originally as a royal residence Cartoixa de Valldemossa was converted into a monastery in 1399 and is now a museum. The monks left in 1835 as a result of a national decree authorizing the Spanish government to take over religious properties. The main church of this well-preserved monastery is still in use. You can tour the church, some of the monks’ former living quarters, library, dining room, old pharmacy, and garden. Nice museum overall but the start of the visit can be a little deceptive: very little information in the first rooms. After that, it gets better and the views from the rooms and items shown are interesting. Bonus point for the piano recital and the very welcoming staff.
