The centerpiece of the city and one of only three High Gothic cathedrals in the country, Catedral Primada was constructed using white limestone brought here from numerous quarries in the surrounding area. For many visitors, the highlight is the sacristy, with its impressive gallery packed with paintings by El Greco, Caravaggio, Titian, Rafael, Zurbarán, and Velázquez. Begun in 1226 on the site of an ancient mosque, the imposing building was modeled after the Bourges Cathedral in France. Its monumental interior features heavy columns dividing the space into five naves, with several side chapels containing exquisite gold reliefs, huge oil paintings, and portraits of cardinals going back at least 500 years. Photography is strictly forbidden inside, though you can access the bell tower to snap a few shots of the historic city center. Beautiful, huge, richly decorated cathedral. It is a Catholic temple of Gothic architecture in Toledo, its construction began in 1226. Fantastic and breathtaking cathedral. Words are not enough to describe how truly magnificent this monument is. Impressive interior. A beautiful, atmospheric temple where you can spend many hours. Amazing impressions. A must see in Toledo.

This beautiful and majestic cathedral feels airy and uplifting, it is so enormous it is easy to get lost in all the books and crannies. Make sure to check out at collection by some great Spanish masters, including El Greco. One and a half hour went by quickly. The audio guide will slow you down a bit, but I would say it is a must, you will really be lost without it, and get a much deeper historical perspective with its help. Definitely it was the central experience of my 5-day-long stay in Toledo.
