As the home of the famous 17th-century Virgin of Hope wooden statue, Basilica de la Macarena draws its fair share of visitors. Most come for the morning procession on Good Friday--the largest of its kind in Spain--but you can view the statue any time of year. Once inside the Neobaroque church, head to the main altar to see the statue. It sits surrounded by silver and gold with a small display of pictures and artifacts that show the statue’s significance to Holy Week. La Macarena is revered highly by Sevillanos, so don’t be surprised if locals try to push you toward the exits during mass. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Seville holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Basilica de la Macarena and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Stunning, well worth a visit, details inside are beautiful and breath-taking. Well maintained and good location.

Compared to the cathedral this is a rather low key church. Built in 1949, just after WOII when resources were scarce. Neobaroque is not my favourite style and the splendour displayed inside perhaps...

Not being as aware of the significance and importance of this church, it was perhaps notes impressive as it is to othts. It's certainly very beautiful and the principal statue / holy icon is very impressive but if you have already visited the Cathedral and Real Alcazar then it may not strike home as much. If your visiting though the 12th century wall and moat and crenellated battlements are very well preserved in a section just starting outside.
