Originally enjoyed by Fernando VI as a royal hunting ground, is now the largest green space in Madrid, with extensive bike and walking trails, a zoo and aquarium, sports arena, amusement park, and cable car. In contrast to the manicured grounds of Retiro Park, this area grows wild and allows visitors to see Madrid's ecosystem in its natural state. Scout out a picnic spot in the sun-dappled forest, walk along creeks, and read up on the local plant and animal life on the informational plaques. Watch for the bright green monk parakeets that flit among the treetops. Young visitors will love the many play areas and the amusement park. Finish off your visit with a ride on the cable car, taking in bird's-eye views of the Temple of Debod, the Parque del Oeste Rose Garden, and the Royal Palace on your way back to the city station, which is near Metro Argüelles. Very nice scenery and a huge park with many picnic tables to enjoy an open air lunch. Great for hiking with many trails that veer off the main paths. One word of warning, as I was making my way...

Casa de Campo is full of trails for walkers, hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers. There are lots of trees, mostly pine and scrub oak. Year round it provides a good refuge from city life. After living here for over 10 years, I'm still discovering different and interesting places. Besides the natural aspect of the park, there are restaurants around Lago, the Madrid Zoological society and a theme park. All the entrances are accessible by car or Metro.
