Create an itinerary including Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos
Experience the grandeur of Spanish royalty and history at Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos. Once the primary residence of the Catholic Monarchs as well as the headquarters of the Spanish Inquisition, the palace centers on the famous Courtyard of the Mariscos, featuring two high towers and an impressive collection of early Roman art. Walk through the tranquil gardens and courtyards that line the Guadalquivir River or visit the Inquisition tower, where a series of Roman mosaics and a sarcophagus are displayed. Climb the two high towers for a panoramic view of the city of Córdoba and the surrounding palace gardens. • Beware Google Maps location fault for the entrance to the Alcázar. We entered the Alcazar in Cordoba as our destination on foot from the excellent Widow's Tavern. Google Maps directed us from the tavern (north west of the Alcázar) around the Alcázar in a clockwise direction all the way to the river and halfway down the Alcázar Gardens to a locked gate facing the river. We had to retrace our steps to find that the actual entrance to the Alcázar is on the north side on the same road as the Royal Stables. My advice for visitors is to locate the Royal Stables on Google Maps then look (or walk) east to the north east corner of the Alcázar where you will find the entrance next to an open space with trees and benches. Good luck and I hope this (direction to entrance) review helps some future visitors.
  • Absolutely not questioning the historical value of this place, however, we expected something more. The gardens are indeed beautiful, but the time in the historical buildings I can only describe as max. 10 minutes spent and the lack of English translations made it difficult to understand the events that took place there in the past. In addition, it was clearly stated that students enter for half price, but at the checkout I was informed that I must have a special international card to get this discount. Queue all day long for 30min-1h standing even with an electronic ticket. A simple comment at the end - one big disappointment.
