Originally built in 1438, Xhamia E Larme resembles a gingerbread house because of its colorful exterior. Instead of being decorated with ceramic tiles, the exterior and interior walls and ceilings are covered with rich floral and geometric ornamentation. Notice the illustration of the temple of the Prophet Muhammad, one of the few depictions of Mecca in Southeast Europe. During its 19th-century restoration by Abdurrahman Pasha, more than 30,000 eggs were used in preparation of the oil paint and glaze to decorate the colorful mosque.
