Taylor's Port
At Taylor's Port, hear about Port wine and its history, learn what makes a good Port, and taste some sought-after vintages. The company dates back to the 17th century and is considered to be one of the largest, oldest Port houses in the world. Visit to check out the company's specialties, vintage blends and wood-aged Ports. The Late Bottle Vintage-style liquor--the most popular premium Port in Canada and England--was pioneered by the company. Visit their cellars to taste Extra Dry White, Late Bottled Vintage, and Tawny 10-year-old Ports, or ask for a premium tasting. Fully private tours can also be reserved. We enjoyed the audio tour that allowed us to go at our own pace. Two criticisms: #1: The selfie station was cool, except when they email you the photo, it has a gigantic watermark on it. Like...

We booked a tour and the you get a wine tasting at the end in their bar. The tour was really interesting and with audio guides you can choose how much and what you wish to listen to. I recommend it. Then you can access the garden with the bar and the shop. The tour include the tasting of the 2 cheapest wine they produce. But if you want to eat something - even nuts- you have to order. We did not particularly like the shop, full of expensive merchandise. But the tour is indeed interesting.

I really liked that it was a self guided tour. That way you can go at your own pace and dive as deep into the details as suits your interests. And they do provide a lot of detail, covering Taylor’s history, the Douro Valley, and of course port itself from the vine to the glass. We concluded with the tasting in the lovely garden, serenaded by the resident rooster and peacock. We supplemented the tasting with a 20 year tawny port (wonderful) and a selection of cheeses, olives and bread with olive oil from their estate (we’re taking a bottle home). Most enjoyable.
