Quinta da Regaleira
World Heritage Site Quinta da Regaleira boasts romantic architecture and a lush park. Walk through the park and past lakes, wells, fountains, and statues. The palace, which was completed in 1910 and nicknamed the Palace of Monteiro the millionaire for its former owner, is the work of Italian architect Luigi Manini using Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, and Manueline influences. Notice the palace's gargoyles and octagonal tower, among other distinctive attributes, as well as its intricate, multi-level chapel. Take in views of the Castle of Moors and Pena Palace. Fascinating and relaxing. Within walking distance of Sintra village. Not busy when we visited in March. Nice cafe. The audio guide was good. Informative but not too detailed.

Great grounds. Beautiful and well kept. House was under major renovations so we were only able to see a small part. Would love to go back once they are completed.

Lovely estate in the hills outside Sintra. Fascinating that it is more recently constructed than I assumed or than it looks (late 1800s). There are small out-buildings scattered about, giving interest to the complex of paths and scenic points. The Initiation Well was amazing but hard to enjoy due to the crowds. And it's not even high season yet! There's a very nice outdoor cafe there with good food, too!

Our favourite place in Sintra (we also went to the Moorish Castle and Pena palace). Easy to get to and can spend hours there, such a beautiful space to explore, with a spooky (in a fun way) history. Felt a bit magical / fairytale-like with all the winding towers and hidden wells and caves. There is also a cafe and toilets (these weren't the nicest but did the job).
