Take a break from your tour of Sao Miguel with a relaxing swim at Poca da Dona Beija, a small spa featuring three natural pools of iron-rich water known for its therapeutic properties. Fed by a series of hot springs, the small pools remain at about 39 C (102 F), an ideal temperature for soothing tense muscles and easing pains associated with chronic rheumatism. On-site facilities include restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, as well as a small gift shop selling handmade jewelry. Keep in mind that the yellowish water can leave stains on your clothes, so wear an old bathing suit for your swim. Fantastic hot springs, very relaxing. The check in process with the lockers and towel deposit is convoluted, but don't let that discourage a wonderful experience!

Amazing thermal baths! You can rent a locker for 1€ (with 20€ deposit), but now I think it’s not necessary because there is a lot of place at every pool to leave your things and have them on your sight. Lot of pools with different depth (from 0,5m to 1,3m). Every one of them has the same temperature - 39 degrees of Celsius. 1 and half hour is enough in my opinion. And 6€ for a person is a good price too.

We were told to check out the hot springs by a local resident. We didn’t know what to expect, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. We did go at night, so it wasn’t well lit, it added to the experience I think. They had excellent landscape lighting and the steam from the hot springs was mystical… there were 5 different pools, 4 hot and 1 cold… there were times we had a pool to ourselves and other times it was a full pool. They don’t have a kids restriction, so there were a few kids running around and screaming, splashing.. so that did take away from the experience at times, but majority of they time they weren’t there. When you enter you have 1.5 hours to relax and wonder around. Changing rooms were clean and the overall place had a very modern feel.
