  • I didn't go inside the research center but I stopped by for a drink and a little snack. The staff was incredibly friendly! You have an awesome view from the terrace and the pastries are delicious!
  • Along the walking trail around Lagoa das Furnas we came across this wonderful and informative research center. The staff were beyond friendly and knowledgeable. They answered all our questions about the island and the diversity within Furnas. For a nominal cost (which goes towards preservation projects) you get access to their exhibition and watch a well made 20 mins documentary about Furnas and what it's like living there. And of course the staff are more than willing to answer your questions about the flora/fauna, where trash goes on an island (to the mainland), or even what species are endemic to Azores. We even learned about a couple new viewpoints... We learned so much and were amazed to hear about the various environmental projects in the works (zero plastic by 2023). Note - there is no longer a cafe in the building.
