Create an itinerary including Blandy's Wine Lodge
Observe Madeira winemaking practices at Blandy's Wine Lodge, where you can hear the company's stories and learn about its history. Operating since 1840, the winery ages its wines using the traditional canteiro method, involving 650 casks, tunnels, vats, changing temperatures, and varying humidity levels. Reserve one of the guided tours to see their cellars, wooden rooms, and huge barrels, and get a chance to taste some of their products. Among numerous wines at the site, you'll have the chance to purchase a golden vintage dating back to 1920 and a deep, dark-brown Madeira bouquet with spices, toffee, and vanilla from 1958. • We didn't go for the tour but tried tasting in the bar inside. Without the tour, not much to see actually. Madeira wine is interesting, not too sweet like Porto wine but fruity and easy to drink. They don't have any soft drink so be careful if you are with kids or non drinker.
  • Interesting tour and tasting. However... The entrance may be accessible but the tours are NOT (three sets of stairs on the premium tour). What i really don't understand is how they sell a tickets to the tour when a person in the group (standing right there) has a walker??? When the tour starts by going up some stairs and we asked the cashier about a path for the person with the walker the response was "Does she really need the walker because there is no other path or elevator".
