Templo Romano de Evora (Templo de Diana)
See the remains of the ancient Roman Templo Romano de Evora (Templo de Diana), with a preserved base and columns carved out of granite and marble, positioned at the center of a public square. This two-millennia-old religious structure stands 9.7 m (32 ft) tall and 25 m (82 ft) wide, and was originally surrounded by a reflecting pool. Built mainly for religious purposes, the site was historically used also as an execution point and a slaughterhouse. View its 14 original granite Corinthian columns with decorative marble capitals, sturdy enough to have withstood the destructive earthquake of 1755. Not really what you expect to see in a small Portuguese town. Apparently it's in such good condition because it was built round with walls so it could be used as a store and for other activities...

I'm not sure what people are expecting...This is a 2000 year old Roman Temple. OK...it's not IN Rome. But this is a 2000 year old ruin with parts still intact. Amazing. Stop in the garden kiosk...

It was right in the middle of the city, but just looking at it, it could make you go back into the medieval old times (from movies) The system deserves appreciation for keeping this old structure intact. We captured some good videos in the morning sun. It was very nice

Amazing place, loaded with history! I was blown away by how well conserved the temple still is!
