Castelo de Aljezur, Aljezur

Not much remains of this Monument except the walls but still worth a visit to place yourself in a location where artifacts date back to the Bronze age! Last Arab stronghold to be captured by the Christian Reconquista in the 13th century

Both walks up to the castle are nice in their own way - the direct route is very steep but has a lovely eucalyptus forest to walk through for the last part. The more meandering route through the old town shows some pretty houses and gardens and is more gentle. Or you could drive, there's space for a few cars at the top. There isn't much of the castle to be honest, half a curtain wall and a couple of towers that look to be just solid platforms. There are information boards and spectacular views too.
