Caacupe
Founded by grenadier Carlos Murphy in 1770, the city of Caacupe serves as the capital of the Cordillera department. Each year 300,000 pilgrims come to the city's cathedral to see a carved statuette from the 16th century, said to have survived a great flood and performed miracles. An annual religious festival here honors the Virgin Mary, the area surrounding the cathedral filling with festivities and pilgrims. Beyond that, Caacupe's attractions come in the form of nice local restaurants, scenic public parks in the center of town, and a smattering of cultural points of interest. Our Paraguay planner combines visitor reviews with your personal interests to make an itinerary informed by experts, but tailored to suit your style.
