Carved almost entirely into a mountain cliff and famoud for miraculous occurrences, Ostrog Monastery serves as one of the world's most-visited Christian destinations. Founded in the 17th century, the site features an Orthodox monastery complex and chapels inside caves. See the Holy Trinity Church, with an interior covered in colorful paintings from top to bottom, and view the remains of 27 World War II soldiers in the Church of Saint Stanko the Martyr. Visit the Upper Church, which emerges out of a cliff and is a world-famous intercession site. The site houses vivid tile icons from 1655, a prayer book from 1732, and decorated candlesticks from 1779. The monastery itself is nice and perched at the top side of a mountain. Without being in a tour, being a thrifty traveller, can present a challenge. You can take the train from niksic or Podgorica...

We self drove here and it was a fairly easy drive with lovely views. Visited in October and it was not crowded, we didn't have to queue up. Plenty of parking space. The monastery is a dramatic sight built into the cliff side. It was a peaceful visit and the views over the valley are beautiful from the monastery.

Do not visit unless you are sniffing the holy smelling salts. If you aren't deeply religious, the only thing worth seeing is the view. We travelled 2 hours based on the Google reviews and were underwhelmed, this one is definitely more a pilgrimage than a tourist spot. There isn't a coffee shop (at least not in April) and the bathrooms were in bits (the ladies was a squat and hover situation!) We did have a very lovely lunch nearby however at Hotel Salone which has a balcony with a fantastic view.
