Hustai National Park, Ulaanbaatar

Observe the world's last wild horses at Hustai National Park, part of a World Heritage Site at the western edge of the Mongolian steppe. Spanning 506 sq km (195 sq mi) through the Khentii Mountains, the conservation area reintroduced the Przewalski horse, locally known as takhi, in the early 1990s. The biodiverse area includes a variety of birds, lichen, moss, and mushrooms, as well as 44 species of mammals including the Mongolian gazelle, red and roe deer, ibex, and Mongolian marmots. The Tuul River runs through the park, providing fantastic scenery and hiking opportunities. Follow well-maintained trails or explore on horseback. Some 100 km (62 mi) west of Ulaanbaatar, the park is easily accessible from the capital by bus.
