Create an itinerary including Bogd Khaan Palace Museum of Mongolia
Escape the traffic and admire the luxuriant decadence of a declining kingdom at Bogd Khaan Palace Museum of Mongolia, the winter palace of Mongolia's last khan. One of the few remaining historical structures left untouched by Soviets or Communists, the Buddhist complex features six temples with elaborately painted warriors on massive entrance doors, colorful sculptures, extravagant interior decor, and Chinese-style hip bamboo roofs. Highlights include a yurt covered in hides of 150 snow leopards, a British horse cart, modern surrealist Buddhist-style murals with erotic scenes, a collection of taxidermied animals from Bogd Khan's private zoo, and exquisitely adorned regalia worn by the khan's pet elephants. • The winter palace had very interesting pieces like stuffed animals, cool gers and nice cutlery. The architecture of the building was too impressive but it was pretty unique as it was buddhist style.

  • Very nice palace. I can highly recommend a visit. Is in a good shape and also the museum has some really good objects especially the animal collection of the Khan is impressive
  • Spectacularly colourful and complex blended architecture in the forms of both a Summer and Winter Palace. Like most museums in the city, there's a charge for admission and an extra charge to take photos. I kind of regret not getting the photo pass. However, you can still take photos of the outside. The Winter Palace which looks more Western in design and white, was actually created with Russian architecture and design in mind. The Summer Palace, however, had a more Buddhist royal style and structure. One of the large gates was even built with no nails, instead substituting them for complex interlocking wooden joints. The history that is offered up along with the feats for the eyes make this a great museum.
