Overlooking the city's famous lagoon, St Mark's Campanile is one of the Venice's most recognizable symbols. Originally constructed as a lighthouse, this 99 m (323 ft) tall bell tower stands alone in one corner of St. Mark's Square. The tower's simple form has a fluted brick shaft topped by a belfry housing five bells. A pyramidal spire with a golden weathervane in the form of the archangel Gabriel caps the tower. Constructed in the ninth century on ancient Roman foundations, the bell tower underwent a massive reconstruction after a sudden collapse in 1902. Once the site of Galileo's observatory, the tower now features an elevator for easy access to the top and views of the lagoon and distant Alps. • It was a nice experience. Sadly it's was windy, but still so fun to watch the surroundings. It's a must if you get nearby.

  • Fantastic views over Venice, this is the tallest building around the island, you can't miss going up there to enjoy the breath taking views over Venice. It is best to go at sun set to enjoy the golden light over Venice. Of course you got to know you will be sharing spots with a lot of other tourists, but that's a normal thing for Venice. Staff was very polite and helpful.
  • Visit Campanile for an amazing view of Venice. You can have clear view of the Doge’s palace, canals, boats and the St. Marks square from this 100 m tall tower. Specially in the evening it looks great to have a sunset view or experience the lighting of the square. Note: the ticket to the tower is not covered in the Museum ticket which allows you access to ~10 museums. And be careful of the bells ringing at every hour. They are very loud.
