Piazzale Michelangelo is decorated with bronze replicas of some of Michelangelo's best-known sculptures. This famous square offers panoramic city views. Designed by architect Giuseppe Poggi and built in 1869, this plaza stands on a hill just south of the historic town center. Poggi designed this public space as a terraced observation deck, which today houses a popular restaurant. The view encompasses the heart of Florence, numerous bridges crossing the river Arno, and the hills beyond the city's skyline. • One of the best views of my entire life. Take the long way up, it's a lot of walking but it's worth it.

  • Superb place to get panoramic views of the city of Florence. Easily accessible by city buses. Restaurants, food bars and shopping available. 360 degree views of the City in all its majesty including all the famous churches, cathedrals, bridges, river and the meandering city views make this a must place to go to while visiting Florence.
  • The best place to get a truly panoramic view of Florence's skyline. The walk uphill to the square could be quite taxing specially on a hot summer day so try to time it in the early morning or in the late afternoon. I chose the afternoon to coincided the climb with the sunset over the River Arno.
