Create an itinerary including Castel del Monte
Protected as a World Heritage site, the image of Castel del Monte appears on the Italian version of the one-cent euro coin. When the castle was built in the 13th century, the fertile region would have made a comfortable lodge for emperors. However, the structure was most likely used as a citadel. The interior has been looted and vandalized, and some of the marble columns and other features ended up in the Bourbon family's royal houses. You can visit the wineries in the wine country around the castle, which produces limited-production barrels of Riserva. • Fantastic restored Castle. Just take the time to park your car and walk to the Castle. When you get in you experience the beautiful rooms and courtyard.

  • Nice castle! Difficult to find tickets to visit insede so I recommend making a reservation online. There is a parking spot for cars just below the castle which is a little bit expensive (3 euro), so better to leave the car down and walk up enjoying the nature.
  • Is an amazing place to visit, is beautiful. We couldn’t go inside due to covid. If you want to go inside and take the tour, RESERVATION is mandatory and the spaces are limited. Some people were mad about not going inside, but the website is clear about it. To reach the Castel you can take the bus (1€) or you can walk up (and down). The path is in the shadow and one part is through a forest, I enjoyed a lot. Make sure that you eat somewhere else, the food in the restaurant is not very good and around the Castel is not much to choose.
