Containing the site of the former parliament of Iceland, Thingvellir National Park serves as a historical landmark set in a beautiful landscape. Part of the Golden Circle, the park is one of the most visited attractions in the country. The national park was founded in 1930 to protect the former parliament, which dates to 930 CE, as well as the natural land surrounding it. Explore the park's highlights, including the Mid-Atlantic ridge, where the Eurasian and North American plates meet, and the largest natural lake in the country. The park has facilities for hiking, camping, and even scuba diving in Silfra Lake. The rift valley has an amazing geological and human history, and it is beautifully captured in the park with well marked trails and informative signs.

I don’t get the hype here. Yes, it’s cool to know you’re walking between two plates, but the scenery is sub-par as compared to other things to see or do in Iceland. My whole family found the area...

Really a beautiful place to visit and have a small walk. The landscape is amazing and very interesting to look at, so if you’re close to the national park you should stop and pay a visit. There’s also a beautiful look out spot in the park, where there’s a small parking lot so you can get out and enjoy the view of the lake

Easily the best views in Iceland and excellent exhibition at the visitor centre explaining the parliamentary/legislative history of Iceland. NB in winter a lot of the paths get VERY icy/slippy so definitely wear hiking boots with good grip and if you have crampons, put them on too!
