Create an itinerary including Bruarfoss Waterfall
Famous for its vivid blue color and notoriously hard to find, Bruarfoss Waterfall gives a new meaning to the term "hidden gem." After an hour's drive from Reykjavik, you'll reach the waterfall via a hike on an unpaved and unmarked path. An adventure in its own right, the trail will have you hiking through mud and climbing over fences, but you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the sky-blue cascades. Enjoy the tranquil ambiance and take some postcard-worthy shots of the photogenic scenery. Bring appropriate footwear--the trek to the falls and back can get quite muddy and slippery. • Thanks to the reviewer who wrote about the new gravel road! There is a small sign at the start of the old parking but signs are rather small in Iceland. Here’s a photo of the sign. Their review...

  • Nice hike with little elevation gain, as you are walking among the river. Water is amazingly blue. Be prepared with waterproof shoes as the first few km was super muddy. Took about 2 hours to get there and back with photo stops.
  • It is a 2-hour round trip trek to reach this waterfall, but the views here are incredible. With a small ravine separating the waterfall,. It almost appears as if the river is parted with the waterfall falling into the center. It doesn't have much incline shifts, but be prepared for LOTS of mud if you decide to go after a rainy day... Which is practically all the time. Be sure to bring boots!
