Head beneath the surface to see an interesting and unusual art and conservation project at Underwater Sculptures. Created by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, the park features over 65 individual sculptures, with some positioned together to form a scene, and some standing alone. Open to artistic interpretation, the sculptures have been designed to promote the regrowth of coral and other aquatic life in the area. The hope is that the sculptures will provide a sanctuary for marine life once coral polyps attach to the concrete statues, and alleviate the intense pressure on the ecosystem because of tourism and hurricanes. Explore the underwater park on a scuba diving, snorkeling, or glass-bottomed boat excursion. Went to Dragons Bay and hired a boat with a local, who took us to sculpture park, and provided us with life jackets he was very informative. There's a bar run by Garvin and he was helpful.

Worth going, but if u have the choice, don't go on a cloudy, rainy day...as visibility will be poor... take your personal snorkel gear if u have it, as a bit hit and miss with the boats equipment, however that may be dependent on whom u book through...beautiful speed boat ride along the coast...

We took a taxi and told the driver to take us to the sculpture park. We arrived at a beach and there was a man with a boat who offered to take our small group of four out to the park for 30 USD each, including snorkels. We took the boat out there and there was another group with their own tour guide to show them the locations of the sculptures, as they are not so easy to find on your own. It had been raining and windy, so the water was very cloudy and we had some difficulty seeing the sculptures without diving down a bit. It was interesting, but there were not many fish or marine life, and the sculptures were very difficult to see. However, it was a fun experience getting to swim around and see a few fish and some of the sculptures. Note: There are two rings of sculptures; one is smaller and closer to the location that the boats will release you at. There is a larger ring of life-sized sculptures a bit further away.
