One of the most popular castle destinations in Saxony-Anhalt, Wernigerode Castle was built into a slope in 1213. In the 18th century, Count Christian Ernest had the castle renovated in the Baroque style that you see today. More renovations in the 19th century added the romantic touch that makes the castle seem as if it arose from the pages of a fairytale. The interior courtyard comes to life during the Christmas season with activities and events happening every hour. These include storytelling, minstrels, reenactments, and a Christmas market. The castle museum is open throughout the year and often hosts conferences, weddings, and events because of its beautiful interior architecture. Quite a good visit, lots of stairs to climb, but the guide was very knowledgeable. I don't usually take guided tours, but it was included in the trip. Most of the furniture was replica or 'similar...

Very beautiful exterior castle building and surrounding landscape, views etc. ... Unfortunately I cannot comment on going into the castle itself as it seems they still (optionally, as 3G/2G is no longer a legal requirement since April 2022) require masks, and the majority of the group I was with either didn't have a mask or preferred not to wear one (I myself am actually medically exempt but that's not always accepted either, despite my doctor's certificate!). Disappointing when the mask requirement was meant to be finally lifted, after almost 2 whole years ... :(

Nice little Hof. Crazy thing is the number of tourists are low and you can enjoy the beautiful city with the locals. Beautiful, colorful small trains to the castle, the medieval time buildings send you back to those times. 100% recommended
