In 1724, Johann August Richter and Gottfried Heinrich Krohne designed the Schloss Belvedere as a pleasure house and summer residence for Duke Ernst August of Saxe-Weimar. In the gardens, updated in the English landscape style in 1811, elegant pavilions flank the chateau's entrance. The plaster-relief interior houses 18th-century porcelain, faïence, paintings, and furniture belonging to the art collections of Weimar. Stroll through the recently restored festive hall and silver salon, and journey back in time to the storied house parties of the mid-18th century. Take in the historical carriage collection and exhibits on hunting and garden culture in the times of Duke August, experiencing life as it was centuries ago. Pick up the audio guide included in the ticket price for more historical information. After your visit, stop at the nearby teashop for refreshments. With our international travel planner, Weimar attractions like Schloss Belvedere can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

Bus number 1 from Hauptbahnhof Weimar stop closest to Belvedere Palace - still is a 20 minutes rather steep up-hill walk. The walk down to Bus Stop Number 1 Bus for return to Weimar less stressful...

Unfortunately the Castle was closed for our visit. So a stroll around the park was the only thing available. Impressive for a hunting lodge!

Was a bit disappointed that a lot of the furniture was not on display, and most of the displays were of glass and china items... I would want to see the kitchen, the batrooms, you know? Intimate moments of their lives that we rarely get to see... But it's overall a very sweet, beautiful "little" castle.

What a beautiful waste. This place is magnificent, spectacular and boring. Seems like it could be one of the top tourist attractions in the region, bustling with life, events, festivals - instead: it’s just there. Like if the administrators would just not care. Be sure to check out the magnificent park valley in the back.
