Germanisches Nationalmuseum
Germanisches Nationalmuseum-- Germany's largest museum of cultural history--houses an enormous collection of German cultural and art objects from prehistoric times to present day. Some highlights include the Cloth of St. Gereon, the oldest European tapestry still existing, plus portraits and paintings by Albrecht Dürer and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Most displays contain text only in German, and the layout can be a little confusing. Regardless, the quantity and quality of the collection makes this worth a stop. With our world travel planner, Nuremberg attractions like Germanisches Nationalmuseum can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

This was my second visit to this amazing museum. Instead of exploring new areas I'd missed before, I decided to return to the religious art/artifacts sections. These made the strongest impressions...

You'll need at least 2 days to cover in-depth...there are plenty of English transcriptions, if you get the audio guide (3€) it gives further explanations but not really required. My favourite was the treasure trove of musical instuments! Museum staff were friendly and helpful.
