Buchnersches Hinterhaus reviews
A beautiful house dating back to the 17th century which is worth a look. The most enchanting thing though is to give the hen outside some money and make her counterpart crow. Great amusement

The Büchnersches Hinterhaus in the southern Thuringian district town of Meiningen is a listed half-timbered house in the Henneberg-Franconian style. It is considered to be the oldest precisely dated, still existing half-timbered house in the former capital and residence of Sachsen-Meiningen. The building is located in the center of Meiningen's old town in the backyard of the main shopping street Georgstraße No. 20, which can be reached through a narrow corridor and a covered gate. The house consists of a stone ground floor and two cantilevered half-timbered upper floors to gain more space in the rooms. The decorative framework consists mainly of St. Andrew's crosses. Above is the attic with a high gable and weathervane. The Büchnersches Hinterhaus also includes a renovated farm building with a wooden, covered outside staircase and a historic fountain. About history: The Büchnersches Hinterhaus was built in 1596 during the city's economic heyday, when numerous magnificent town houses were built. The builder of the Büchnersches Hinterhaus, master baker Hans Müller, also expressed his prosperity with the ornate and richly decorated facade. Remodeled in 1678, master baker Grumbach acquired the building in 1766, which shortly afterwards came into the possession of the Büchner family through marriage. During the devastating city fire of September 5, 1874, the Büchner rear building only just escaped destruction. The fire brigade was able to stop the major fire, which was spreading along Georgstrasse coming from the market, at the height of the Büchner house. While the neighboring house on the right fell victim to the flames, the Büchner rear building and the following buildings were saved. At the beginning of the 20th century the building was in such poor condition that demolition was considered. At the suggestion of Duke George II and under the direction of Chief Architect Eduard Fritze, the house was renovated from the ground up in 1904. In 1974 the paintwork was renewed according to historical findings. In 1992, extensive renovation work took place in the house and the courtyard was given a monument-compliant design. The roof covering was renewed in 1996 and the last facade renovation was carried out by the Wagner painting company in 2001. Alfred Büchner (1896-1997), one of the landlords, received honorary citizenship from the city of Meiningen in 1996 for preserving the listed building and for his services in conveying Meiningen's history. The house is currently inhabited by the eighth generation of the Büchner/Grumbach family.
Historical, beautiful house. Lovingly cared for by the owners. A rooster crows while feeding the donation box.🐓
