Sitting next to the river Weser, Zoo am Meer is home mainly to Nordic and aquatic species. Opened in 1928 under the name Tiergrotten, the zoo has expanded greatly over the decades to accommodate a greater variety of animals. Some of the more popular animals here are the polar bears, the South American sea lions, seals, and Humboldt penguins. Look for a number of reptiles and land animals, such as the mountain lion and the chimpanzee. Check for animal feeding times on the zoo's website. Absolutely awful. The Poor animals has no space to move around. This was our worst experience this holiday in Germany. This place should close down emediately.

Wonderful zoo perfect for young kids with a kids area for them to play and climb and use up some energy while the parents can watch from the cafe. Nice selection of mostly see fairing animals, bird and fish. The polar bears and the penguins got the biggest crowd of kids and parents and if you check the time tables you can watch them feed the penguins. The aquarium is small but looks great and will keep the young kids entertained. The have lots of areas to stop and rest with the kids if they need a break or if you do. The cafe is nice and simple with all the things you could want. There is a gift shop if you want to buy some souvenir’s. The day tickets let you renter the zoo if you feel like stepping out for lunch and the returning to the animals again or play in the kids area. Would recommend it for everyone and will certainly be returning

It was a lovely experience for me and my kids. I guess because it was not crowded and we enjoyed everything we saw slowly. It is not as big but enough to get your kids entertained and tired at the end of the day which what we parents would want. Food is available, terrace was nice, view of the sea, the animals were entertaining, polar bears were three. I saw some only one or two. But there were three and cuddling. Penguins and sea lions were cheerful and surprisingly not that smelly. We enjoyed the aquarium as well. We went there on winter and it was worth the drive from our Center Parcs
