A hands-on museum, Deutsches Schiffahrts Museum details the history of ships from medieval times through modern day. With many interactive exhibits, such as remote-controlled ships, plus models you can climb on and explore, the attraction makes for an interesting outing for children as well as adults. You can even board a recovered submarine that was pulled from the sea after World War II and restored for use by the German navy. The event schedule online will give you a glimpse of special events occurring during your intended visit. Interesting maritime museum Several ships you can go on board.. a tug, a whaling ship and a 1920s cargo and salvage boat that worked all over the world. There is a large steel sailing boat as well as U1 submarine from 1945. Inside there is a reconstruction of a medieval cog boat discovered in the estuary. Well presented and informative exhibition. €3 for the museum which includes entry to the ships outside. The submarine was €3. Plenty of parking nearby, restaurants and a big shopping centre close by that sells food. Great views of the estuary. Recommended
