Situated at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, World Heritage Site Jvari Church sits alone atop a desolate, windswept mountaintop. A Georgian Orthodox monastery founded in the 6th century, the site is where St. Nino converted King Miriam to Christianity (according to tradition) and erected a cross on an existing pagan temple. The current church is believed to have been built between 590 and 605 CE. Explore this site to get a sense of the religious history of the nation. Attempt to read the inscription on the facade, which is said to date the structure by naming the principle builders involved in the construction. • Very nice viewpoint on the military road. It's a 20 minute stop. The monastery is nice, although not the most beautiful we saw in Georgia.

  • This sixth century monastery is the oldest orthodox church on top of jvary Mountain. From top of the mountain gives a good view of Mtkvari Town and the confluence of two rivers Aragvi and Mtkvari...

  • Great location on top of a hill with amazing views all around. The monastery is small overall but I liked that walking path around it and the sight of the meeting point of two rivers.
  • The views are fantastic from this place. It was a bit foggy but still the views are good, I can imagine how it would be in autumn/spring. Also It's windy here, so make sure you are properly dressed.
