Dedicated to the life of Joseph Stalin, Stalin Museum charts his life and history, from his birth in a small mud-brick house until his death in 1953. The museum sits on the site of his childhood home--in fact, it contains the small house where he was born under a specially built awning. Presenting a balanced account of his rise to power, the museum has a small room dedicated to political repression during Stalin's regime. Enter the first hall upstairs to learn about Stalin's childhood and to read some of his poetry. Learn about the ruler's relationship with Lenin, which ran from friendship and loyalty to Lenin's public criticism of Stalin's tactics. View a copy of Stalin's death mask, a reconstruction of his office in the Kremlin, and his bulletproof, personal train carriage. The museum offers guided tours in English, German, and French. A visit to Stalin Museum represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Gori travel route planning app to plot your vacation.

It felt strange to visit a shrine to one of the worst mass murderers in history. Well worth a visit.

Fascinating, almost a shrine to the memory of Mr Jughashvili! You will encounter plenty of old photos of himself, often pictured alongside various politicians from the past.

Outside of main bldg is his train car and house where he was born/lived at young age. Inside the main bldg, a museum expo is upstairs. 3-4 large rooms with a lot of photos of him and people around him. Unfortunately, very little in English. You better read Georgian or Russian. He was a handsome young guy. What happened?

Created in Soviet era, this museum is a nice example of Stalin's empire style and Soviet Culture of that time, as well as propaganda. However, we were lucky to get to a tour with local museum guide and I have to admit that the excursion was very informative and interesting. They totally understand that most part of the exhibit was created by the culture of propaganda. They also tried to expand the exhibit with new information related to repressions. But currently the process of renovation of the exhibition is frozen, unfortunately. My personal opinion is that together with the exhibition of Soviet occupation, which is located in the National Museum in Tbilisi, this museum will help you to create relatively fair picture of what were happening during the Soviet's era.
