Seine-Maritime

4.3
Architectural Buildings · Lookouts · Landmarks
The Seine-Maritime department in the Upper Normandy region is famous for its seaside holiday resorts and limestone cliffs eternalized by impressionist painters, such as Monet, Renoir, and Pissarro. This historically and culturally diverse department is the setting of Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. You will find many fine historic buildings to explore here, including the tallest cathedral tower in the country. The 120 km (75 mi) of dramatic limestone cliffs just south of the English Channel continue to place this department on many itineraries. You can charter a boat company to take you out onto the waters to view these splendid cliffs from the sea, as well as view the famous Normandy Bridge.
